Title:

Shaping the Future of Sustainable Smart Energy with IoT, AI, and Solar PV Systems for Indonesia and Southeast Asia   

Abstract:

The accelerating energy transition across Indonesia and Southeast Asia presents unprecedented opportunities to develop intelligent, resilient, and sustainable energy ecosystems. As the region experiences rapid urbanization, increasing electricity demand, and ambitious net-zero commitments, the convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies is transforming how energy is generated, managed, and consumed. This keynote explores the evolution of smart energy systems from conventional Home Energy Management Systems (HEMS) toward AI-driven, IoT-enabled, and data-centric energy platforms capable of supporting smart homes, smart buildings, smart communities, and future smart cities. This lecture highlights recent advances in IoT-enabled sensing, edge and cloud computing, AI-based energy forecasting and optimization, intelligent demand-side management, digital twins, and real-time communication technologies that enable seamless coordination between distributed renewable energy resources, energy storage systems, consumers, and utility providers. Particular emphasis will be placed on the integration of solar PV systems with intelligent energy management frameworks to improve energy efficiency, grid reliability, renewable energy utilization, and carbon emission reduction. The discussion will further extend beyond individual homes to community-scale energy management, virtual power plants, peer-to-peer energy trading, and AI-enabled smart grid applications that are increasingly relevant for the ASEAN region. The session will examine the opportunities, challenges, and future research directions for deploying intelligent renewable energy systems across Indonesia and Southeast Asia, including policy frameworks, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, interoperability, affordability, and human capacity development. By integrating IoT, AI, and solar PV technologies, the region can accelerate its transition toward low-carbon, resilient, and digitally connected energy systems that support sustainable economic growth and improved quality of life.
